The Virtual PAGE 3 of Indian Contemporary ART Studio Confluence - 1st Sept '07 (show continues till 9th Sept 07) Jehangir Nicholson Gallery, NCPA Does Size Matter II |
|
Does Size Matter II the art show conceptualized and put together by Farah Siddiqui of Studio Confluence seeks to break the myth that big alone is beautiful in art. All the paintings on show were part of a project to explore the small format; some painted within or inspired by the traditions of Indian and European miniatures and others using a post-modernist perspective in terms of technique and form. Present last evening at Jehangir Nicholson Art Gallery,NCPA were many with an artistic flair such as Poonam Mahajan with her husband, Pheroza Godrej,Harsh Goenka,Bose Krishnamachari,Chintan Upadhyay,Anil Dharker,Brinda Miller,Police Commisioner Javed Ahmed with wife Shabnam,Ashok Salian,Raell Padamsee,Anjana Mehra,Tara Lal,Yashwant Deshmukh,Julius Mcwan,Jenny Bhatt,Ritu Prakash (of Studio Galleria),Vipta Kapadia,Amrita Kilachand and many more. The size of these works ranges from one square inch to two-by-two feet going up... Among the works are those of Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra. Their 428-page book of illustrations, designs and photography is so small that the limited edition copies had to be hand-stitched. At one-inch, the book, titled David and Goliath, entered the Limca Book of Records in 2005 as the smallest book made in the country. It was exhibited here for the first time. To prove that true art can come in small packages and it is the quality of art that matters the most. Everything is driven by the market and prices are measured in terms of square feet; But not any longer !! |
