Masuram Ravikant

Traversing (yesterday, today & tomorrow)

Masuram Ravikanth born in the year 1980, in Jangaon, A.P received B.F.A in painting from M.M.K. Visual Arts, Gulbarga University in 2001; thereafter he received M.F.A in painting from Central University of Hyderabad in 2004.

The artist has engaged himself in a hilarious recreation of a personalized museum. The artist informs of an immense sense of pleasure attained by him, while he was at work with pictorial references of forms from paintings, sculptures and artifacts from the coloniser's archives.
The act of choosing, from the references, satisfied his aesthetic requirement of beholding an object of beauty. The placing of these chosen artifacts within the bulb is yet another occurrence, wherein the bulb became a body. It is valid to read meaning in the recurrence of the form of a bulb, being the constant container for the elements from the past, both historical and personal. In his absorption to paint, delineate and render, thoughts and motifs, his exertion has been to bring together the precincts of time, in one plane.

The artist during the process of his work has balanced many odds, not just the elements of composition on the surface, but also various conditions in constant opposition of each other. In this instance, from the present to the past and into the future, the moving is straddled with occurrences that are varied. Whether such diverse experiences reconcile, might have been a question that Ravikanth raises or tries to answer in his exposition of “yesterday, today and tomorrow”.
